How to dispose of bulky waste (application and stickers)
Content not yet verifiedTranslation checked Checked by reviewers who live here
Large items cannot be put out on regular garbage days. You must apply, buy a ticket, and put them out on the designated day β This is the order.
1. What is "bulky waste"?
Generally, it's anything that exceeds 30cm on one side. This includes futons, bicycles, desks, chairs, bookshelves, carpets, etc. Standards vary by city, so if you're unsure, call and ask.
2. Items that cannot be put out (important)
- Televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners β These four cannot be put out as bulky waste. They are collected through a separate system called appliance recycling, where you pay a fee. The easiest way is to ask the store where you bought them or the store where you're buying new ones.
- Computers β The manufacturer will take them back.
- Motorcycles, tires, fire extinguishers, pianos, etc. are handled separately.
3. The process of sending
- Apply β by phone or internet. Tell them what and how many items you will be putting out.
- You will be given the date, fee, and application number. Please write it down.
- Purchase a disposal ticket (sticker) at a convenience store or supermarket. Just say, "I'd like a bulky waste disposal ticket, please."
- Write your name or application number on the ticket and attach it to the item where it is visible.
- Put it out at the designated location on the morning of the designated day. Whether you can put it out the night before depends on the city.
4. Things to be aware of
- It may take 1-2 weeks from application to collection. It will not be possible if you apply the day before moving. Please apply early.
- March and April are crowded. Please come earlier.
- If you forget to attach the ticket, it will not be taken.
5. Things to consider before throwing away
- Items that are still usable can be offered for free at the ATRENS Secondhand Market. Items that would otherwise cost money to dispose of can be used by the next person who comes.
- Recycling shops may also come to buy them.
- Leaving items on the street is illegal dumping. You will be penalized.
Application procedures, fees, and drop-off methods vary by municipality. Please check the official information provided by your city.
